Welcome to the Department of English and American Studies!
We will not be able to meet in person in the Autumn Semester, which is especially bothersome for first year students. We will do our best to compensate for the lack of personal contact by online teaching. You can get acquainted with the Department members on our (to-be-updated:-) Profiles page.
Do not hesitate to contact us with questions and suggestions. Together, we will see through these difficult times. Also, follow our Facebook (see the window on the right) and the activities of the English Students’ Club — ESCApe.

The photo above shows a part of our Department history: it comes from the 50th Anniversary of The Gypsywood Players, the theatre company of the Department. The picture is five years old, so the company is 55 this year, but there will be no re-union — and this year’s performance is also suspended.
Pending is an even more important anniversary – 100 years of the Department itself. Our first professor was, indeed, appointed 100 years ago. However, regular teaching only started in 2021. This is why we decided to hold off the celebrations, hoping that the situation will be back to normal next academic year.
New Pathways in Anglophone Literary and Cultural Studies in Pandemic Times
It is our honor to present an upcoming graduate studies conference of literary and cultural studies in English. The conference provides an opportunity for emerging scholars, advanced M.A. students, and Ph.D. candidates, to exchange ideas on the topic of health, contagion and epidemics, and to present their current research.
