Book launch of the new translation of Marlowe's Edward II
On November 22nd, Filip Krajník's new translation of Christopher Marlowe's scandalous play Edward II was launched in the reading room of the Faculty of Arts’ library.
Dear colleagues,
It is with extreme sadness that I have to inform you that our former student and PhD graduate, Danica Maleková (née Gašparíková), passed away earlier this month, aged 46. Many of you will remember her from her studies in the department.
She defended her PhD thesis, titled “The Genre of Institutional Press Release - a Critical Discourse Analysis”, in our department in 2010. After working as an English-Slovak/Czech translator in Luxembourg, she took up an academic post in Slovakia, helping to build the newly established English department at the Catholic University in Ružomberok.
For the past couple of years, she kindly served as a member of the joint programme board of the BA and MA programmes in English Language and Literature at our department.
Danica was a very gifted scholar – clever, original and creative in her linguistic analysis, always looking for new topics and approaches, as shown in many of her research studies as well as the recent monograph “Cultural Values in British and Slovak Tourist Texts: A Study of Evaluative Adjectives”.
We will miss a great friend, an eternal optimist and a wonderful colleague.
