BEST Divadlo* – Love Letters by A. R. Gurney

The theatre company BEST Divadlo is happy to present A. R. Gurney’s timeless play Love Letters for the 14th ESSE Conference in Brno. Love Letters shares a lifelong written correspondence between two childhood friends from well-to-do families – one destined for success and high position, the other challenged by unfortunate career choices and relationships. Through it all, this comical and moving piece, rendered in the style of reader’s theatre, is a glowing reminder that we never forget our first love.

A. R. Gurney is one of America’s most respected modern playwrights, author of The Dining Room, Scenes from American Life, The Cocktail Party, and Sylvia. His play Love Letters has been performed by dozens of the world’s most renowned actors and belongs to the finalists for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama.

BEST’s production of David Mamet’s November last season was critically acclaimed and drew international coverage. For those of you who may have an interest in BEST’s 2018-2019 season, upcoming shows will include Mamet’s Sexual Perversity in Chicago (November), A Walk in the Woods by Lee Blessing (December) and Wencelas Square by Larry Shue (February).

Petr Váša – Physical Poetry

An evening of physical poetry, a genre created in the 1990s by Petr Váša – graduate of art history at Masaryk University’s Faculty of Arts, author, musician and artist – and steadily enriched by him over the years since then. A solo performance not so much in Czech as in “Translatin”, an entertaining and easily comprehensible poetic Esperanto.
