The award of the Nobel Prize in Literature to Bob Dylan ten years ago prompted re-evaluation of our contemporary notions of what constitutes “literature.”  This intensive seminar will look to the pertinence of the Nobel to American writers and readers, and will examine a sample of works by laureates William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, Saul Bellow, Toni Morrison, and Louise Gluck, among others.
